Christmas Fire Safety Tips As christmas comes closer, it’s a time of celebration.
However, with more potential fire risks from christmas trees, lights, and
candles, it’s important to take precautions to ensure we have a safe and joyous
christmas.
At KBM
Fire Safety Services in Cornwall, we are experts in fire
safety. This month’s blog offers you tips to be fire safe this Christmas
period. For more, call us on 01208 73001 .
Turn To Battery-Operated
Candles More than one-third of home decoration fires are caused by
candles. Consider how easy it would be for the candle to potentially fall and
instead opt for a much safer alternative. Battery-operated candles are much
safer and have a much lower risk of starting a large-scale fire.
Don’t Put Outdoor Lights Inside It might be tempting to put that flashing Santa in the
living room, but only do this if its designed for the indoors! There’s a big
difference between outdoor and indoor Christmas lights. The outdoors require
much more power and are obviously designed to be situated outside your walls.
Don’t take the risk!
Switch Everything Off With energy bills at an all-time high, turning your lights
off while you sleep or leave the house seems like the sensible thing to do.
However regardless of the costs, it is a very high fire risk to leave any plug
operated device on while you are asleep or out.
By simply turning them off by the switch, you are decreasing
the chance of a fire by a big percentage.
Keep The Tree Cold When placing your tree inside your house, make sure it is
kept away from heat sources like fires. The heat will dry the tree out which
can potentially cause it to be more easily ignited by heat, flames, or sparks.
Check Your Smoke Detectors Regardless of the occasion, its always good practise to
regularly check your smoke detectors. And with the increased fire risks in your
home, a simple practise can help keep you safe!
